He has been providing house call services to pets and their owners now for over 7 years. He both understands and values the bond between owners and their beloved pets, and he also appreciates that pets are viewed by many to be members of the family. He forms and maintains a partnership with his clients such that together they can provide compassionate AND comprehensive medical care to the patient under his care. Dr. McKean is a licensed veterinarian in both CT and NY and welcomes the opportunity to meet you and your pets in the comfort of your home.
What can you expect with a home visit?
Bringing the necessary equipment, Dr. McKean will meet you at your doorstep for the house call. After familiarizing himself with you and your pet, he will then take the necessary medical history and perform a thorough physical exam, he will make his medical assessments based on the history and the examination of your pet. Finally, he will discuss his findings and make medical recommendations based on his observations and assessments. Together, you both can work out the best and feasible treatment plan for your pet's condition. Once you both agree on the treatment plan, he will provide the appropriate medical care.
Dr. McKean will provide an extensive range of medical services. Sometimes the home visit will provide for routine wellness and preventive care (vaccines, wellness screening tests, heart worm or flea/tick preventive medications. Other times, more comprehensive care may be necessary; this might include comprehensive diagnostic testing, minor medical treatment, or short or long term medications. Finally, if your pet's condition is more significant requiring treatment in a veterinary hospital, he will assist you in getting your pet the appropriate medical attention. Regardless of your pet's condition or needs, Dr. McKean will assist you in the patient, compassionate manner that he has employed throughout his 25 year career.
Finally, you may ask.... what will this cost? A home visit fee is $125 ($75 deposit for new clients to then be applied to the first home visit bill). This fee may be adjusted based on distance traveled, after hours or a holiday visit, routine or urgent needs, or for multiple pet evaluations. Charges will be assessed for physical exams, diagnostic testing, minor medical procedures, prescription medications, as well as other forms of treatment/care. You will find that the charges are competitive and fair. The medical fees are consistent with those in this geographic area and are commensurate with Dr. McKean's experience and standard of medical care.
